ADVANCED PROPULSION TEAM
Our Advanced Propulsion Teams are the visionaries in developing the next generation of powertrain components. These include new architectures, advanced energy storage, novel electric drives, cutting-edge power electronics, multifunction ancillary systems and other advanced powertrain commodities.
PROPULSION DELIVERY, PTSE, CERTIFICATION AND QUALITY
Consisting of the Propulsion Project teams that deliver the propulsion system into our vehicle architectures, colling, fuels and exhaust systems. Within this team, our Quality Project teams are focused on improving overall propulsion quality.
ENGINES, TRANSMISSIONS, DRIVELINE AND POWER ELECTRONICS
Our teams in this space deliver design, validation and delivery for core engine, transmission, driveline and hybrid power electronics systems to all new and existing engineering programmes.
POWER ELECTRONICS AND HV INTEGRATION
Developing cutting-edge 800V electrical system components and system design, delivering class-leading electric passenger cars to a global market. It includes the integration of HV systems, on-board charging systems, and DC:DC power conversion.
HV TRACTION BATTERIES
Our HV Traction Batteries teams include the development of cells, cell stack assemblies, cell and stack cooling systems, battery management systems (hardware and software), frames and enclosure and the innovative use of structural adhesives and sealants.
PROPULSION SOFTWARE, CALIBRATION AND CONTROLS
Developing model-based control system design, software coding and compiling, and calibration of vehicle attributes through software and control system testing.
PROPULSION SOFTWARE, ARCHITECTURE AND INTEGRATION
Driving quality and compliance in our software development, monitoring of international regulatory legislations, leading on design decisions and system structure to comply in all markets.
ELECTRIC DRIVE UNITS, E-MACHINES, TRANSMISSIONS AND INVERTERS
Work on the design and engineering of the world’s best electric motors, transmissions and advanced inverters creating an exceptional electric drive experience.
MEET STEFAN FUCHSS, CHIEF ENGINEER ELECTRIC DRIVE UNITS
Stefan leads the development of all JLR Electric Drive Units (EDU). This consists of machines, inverters and transmission systems. Altogether, he heads up a global team of almost 300 engineers in the UK, China and India delivering high-tech and transformative solutions.
Graduating in 1997 from the University of Kaiserslautern as a German Diplom-Ingenieur in Mechanical Engineering before taking his first position at Daimler AG. In 20 years at Mercedes-Benz, he worked in their Vehicle and Powertrain Engineering departments. After a short period at Chrysler-Jeep, he returned to Mercedes to lead the 4Matic AWD, 9Gtronic Automatic and passenger car hybridization portfolios.
In 2017, Stefan joined JLR to lead the transmission, driveline and EDU team – successfully introducing the Jaguar I-Pace Driveline, the Defender AWD system and the Range Rover Evoque PHEV. His vision of a fully electric range of vehicles is clear, and he oversees all electric drive units at JLR.
“I feel privileged to lead one of the most capable teams in the car industry to compete for the best electric driveline in the world. The strong commitment and dedication at JLR to transforming our company and setting benchmarks is a fantastic inspiration. I am looking forward to the rollout of our ground-breaking technology, made in our factories.”

DEVELOPING YOUR SKILLS
We have launched the JLR Learning Academy; a home for lifelong learning. We are creating engaging, relevant and personalised learning content and experiences that can impact personal, team and organisational performance.
It is essential people are curious about things and take their own development seriously in order to be better equipped to move into different roles, projects or careers. The value of our people lies in their continued development and in our commitment to invest in their learning and growth in order that they can optimise their performance, whatever their role.
An essential ingredient in our success is the creation of an environment where managers actively share what they are learning and encourage others to grow and stretch and where they coach and mentor others to maximise their team's performance and continued growth. Through the JLR Learning Academy we are seeking to enable people to learn, create, grow and to support others to do the same; daring each other to embrace the changes and the challenges we face and ensure our future is bright.
WOMEN IN ENGINEERING
The Women in Engineering and Allies network champions gender inclusivity in engineering functions and continues to grow rapidly. Engaging female engineers to flourish and recognise their work and contribution to automotive development. The network has chapters across various sites and is fully aligned with the JLR employee-led diversity championing networks.
Led by a talented and dedicated committee of volunteers, the network has an active schedule of lunches, annual conferences, skills workshops and guest speakers. It is also active in supporting activities in schools, universities, careers fairs and internal JLR campaigns.
