An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Product Owner to join our EDU Transmission squad, working within the JLR Agile framework. You will define the product vision, coordinate and prioritize the development team’s tasks, and drive the integration, development, and testing of next-generation Electric Drive Unit (EDU) transmission systems. Your primary focus will be delivering transmissions for the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) ExCEED project, with potential to extend into additional research and advanced projects including PhD’s.


In this role, you will align product vision with stakeholders across the EDU Group and vehicle levels, manage and prioritize the squad’s backlog, and respond swiftly to changing customer needs. You will maintain a strong understanding of JLR’s product development framework, identify skill gaps, and work with chapter leaders to address them. Collaborating with other squads, you will ensure a realistic transmission squad plan, lead meetings with suppliers and research partners, and deliver progress updates to key customers. Your responsibilities also include coordinating prototype component acquisition, managing the transmission Bill of Materials, appraising tier 1 supplier proposals, and supporting low-volume prototype sourcing.


You will coordinate concept generation to meet engineering, cost, weight, and safety targets, work with CAD engineers on models and drawings, and align with manufacturing, attribute, and integration teams. Additionally, you will perform root cause analysis using methodologies like 8D and Six Sigma, travel to support build issues, manage issues in relevant systems, and complete preventive actions.



Knowledge, Skills and Experience



  • Good technical understanding of mechanical component design and integration (experience of electric drive unit transmissions preferred).
  • Experience managing resolution of business, technical and process issues within a Project Team environment, with internal and external stakeholders, including with Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing, presentation and reporting skills to support supplier and management reviews.
