WHAT TO EXPECT:


This role sits within Engineering Test Operations EO, specifically the Electrification, Transmission, Driveline and Electrification Team in Whitley. The department delivers test capability which supports design, development, and validation of Powertrain systems from controls development and calibration through to certification and legislative compliance testing. The department operates a range of test facilities which are used to develop, verify and sign-off component, sub-system, and system level targets.  

 

The EDU Senior Test Rig Technician will be responsible for the installation, preparation, instrumentation and operation of the automation system on the EDU tests rigs, for the validation, development and verification testing of new prototype state of the art Electric drive Units (EDU’s).
    
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

 

  • Prepare cells for testing: EDU logistics for upcoming installations to ensure no time is lost at the testbed, conduct test set up activities, covering safe and repeatable, high quality EDU installations into test cells.
  • Low voltage & High Voltage electrical installation/ Cooling systems, facility equipment set up. Including fabrication as required to ensure a high-quality installation.
  • Ensure high quality of testing and test data: Ensure all tooling is within calibration and raise non-conformance with supervisor/build engineer.  
  • Operation of the test rig manually and using the automation system
  • Execution of automated test routines for test bed prepared by the engineers
  • Supporting wider team: Support Rig test facility Utilisation diary logs and facility breakdown reporting
  • Application of Health and Safety within the facility – working within and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Ensure the leading metrics (preparation of next up tests) is done accordingly to minimise downtime in the facility 


WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

 

  • An indentured apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 vocational qualification in Mechanical or Motor Vehicle Engineering and 3 years relevant technical experience
  • Excellent knowledge of motor vehicle technology with an up-to-date knowledge of vehicle development, especially new engine types, hybrid and electronics
  • Strong, practical skills with good manual dexterity
  • Ability to follow written and spoken instruction and interface well with customers
  • Ability to work quickly and pay attention to detail
