WHAT TO EXPECT

 

As the e-Motor Design Engineer, you will be part of the Next Gen eMotor Concept group, based in our research and development facilities; You will be responsible for supporting the delivery all aspects of the design of the electric motor concepts, ensuring the electric motor and associated subassemblies are designed to manufacturable standards. You will liaise with the rest of the eMotor Concept group, the CAE team and the EDU system teams and will act as stakeholder of the electric machine and its components in both design and delivery activities, supporting designers in producing the necessary drawings, build parts and ensure the assemblies are received according to the JLR standards, taking an active role in resolving technical issues that arise during concept development phases and capture them as design changes. You will also take part in the identification of new Failure Mode and detection methods inherited to these new designs.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

 

  • Performed CAE analysis of next gen eMotor Concepts and act as stakeholder of the non-geometrical data.
  • Identification of new failure modes and detection methods of next gen eMotor Concepts and its subassemblies.
  • Engage with suppliers of finished assemblies (internal or external suppliers) and ensure its delivery to both quality and timing standards.
  • Able to work effectively with design teams to develop and optimise solutions considering multi-attributes within defined deadlines and time constraints.
  • Have some product knowledge and awareness of potential design constraints (packaging, manufacturing etc.) and ensure due consideration is given in developing solutions.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

You will be acting as a technical stakeholder for the designers and will work cross-functionally to gather requirements; for this you will need effective communication and stakeholder management abilities to articulate the requirements and understand the needs of the teams.

 

Essential: 

 

  • Working knowledge and experience on electric machines for automotive applications
  • Previous experience and background in design of new concepts and ideas
  • Previous experience of delivering engineering or analytical projects
  • Competent in the use of eMotor CAE tools (MotorCAD)
  • Experience in Macro & script programming e.g. Matlab, Python, Excel
