WHAT TO EXPECT
Join us on our journey as we shape the future of our products and how they are manufactured in our global manufacturing facilities. The role will be within the Global Manufacturing Engineering team with a focus on Trim & Final operations, covering how we can influence the product design with a strong set of manufacturing requirements, enforcing design for manufacture and operational cost reduction at the very beginning of product creation.
The team work in an off-cycle environment, away from product delivery with a real focus on what the manufacturing process standard needs to be in order to achieve our quality, cost, safety and modern luxury customer experience.
The team need to work collaboratively with our Engineering teams, delivering new technologies, new vehicle lines and new commodity strategies, years ahead of ever seeing a physical property being built.
This role is based across both our Gaydon and Solihull sites
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
• Reviewing & updating of PFMEA documents and support of connected procedures
• Reviewing & updating content of the GME Standards Hub and all related documents
• Develop and sustain Trim & Final manufacturing process standards for all commodities and technologies.
• Deep dive competitor benchmarking data, review CAD proposals and dictate best in class design for assembly standards to reduce complexity and cost of all new commodities in development.
• Further develop internal benchmarking, reviewing best practise across our model range and also taking any lessons learnt from previous launches to ensure the manufacturing standard truly delivers best in class for all new car lines.
• Work alongside the facilities and cost per unit teams as well as product engineering to ensure the process standard and equipment standards deliver the best operational cost and the requirements from the product design are tangible and realistic.
• Visit the manufacturing sites and review the current car processes to align with future commodity strategy development, take away any learning from the production team and the Current Manufacturing Engineering team.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
• Expert in Failure Mode Avoidance tool set including development, creation and maintenance of PFMEA & Control Plans - Problem solving & resolution, with Prevent Re-occurrence & 8D etc.
• Experience in a Manufacturing environment and/or assembly operations
• Relevant previous experience of Manufacturing / Engineering processes, tools, and techniques
• Thorough understanding of lean manufacturing and Design for Assembly
• Ability to manage 3D models tools (CAD) and Mechanical Engineering principles.
• Good understanding of engineering processes, BMV, HPC, CapEX reporting and Cost Deck management
• Strong IT, presentation & analytical skills.
• Flexible approach to job responsibilities, work location and working hours.
Desirable:
• Ideally educated to degree level in Manufacturing / similar engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience of presenting business case to show risk vs benefits of a manufacturing/Product design solution.
• Knowledge of and involvement in the product development phase
• Experience of working in an Agile organisation
• Project management experience
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing
• Process and procedure authoring experience
• Internal/External Audit trained & have knowledge of IAFTF 16949 & AIAG Standards
