WHAT TO EXPECT 

 

In this role you will provide technical expertise for Exterior Ornamentation components for current and future programmes, with focus on delivering engineering excellence through the creation and improvement of Requirements, Standards, Design Rules, Test Procedures, foundation DFMEAs, Bill of Designs, How-to Guides and benchmarking of new concepts and technologies.

 

You will support programme Lead Engineers to ensure robust application of all Core technical specifications in the components design and robust engineering sign-off is delivered at key gateways.

 

You will naturally and easily demonstrate the behaviours and culture outlined by the Creator's Code, and engage easily within the team, across multiple disciplines and at different levels of the business being able to communicate complex ideas using clear data to inform towards the best solutions.

 

Focused on teamwork and growth, you will actively coach and guide colleagues within the Ornamentation Chapter to achieve the best of results within a challenging Programme environment.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure creation and improvement of Requirements, Standards, Design Rules, Test Procedures, foundation DFMEAs, foundation SCSS, Bill of Designs and How-to Guides, in line with the Chapter vision for world class quality and modern luxury.
  • Ensure sourcing supporting documentation (Product Design Specification, Engineering Statement of Work, DV&PV Test lists) is well defined prior to submission.
  • Benchmarking of similar competitor components, new concepts & technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance, support and coach programme Lead Engineers to ensure adherence to all Core technical specifications and best practices for Ornamentation components.
  • Ensure a robust Engineering sign off of all Ornamentation components at key Engineering gateways with all required evidence logged in the appropriate systems (e.g., RMDV, 3DX).
  • Support the development of AVA CAD & CAE templates.

 

WHAT YOU NEED

 

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in product design and development of hard trims (e.g., injection moulding components).
  • Significant technical knowledge of application of A surface finishes, e.g., painted, high gloss as moulded, chrome plating, in-mould decoration, hot stamping, self-coloured etc.
  • An excellent understanding of Failure Mode Avoidance processes, in particular DFMEA.
  • Relevant experience of technical specifications definition, including virtual and physical validation procedures.
  • Experience of successful component design and delivery, including of integration.
  • Good understanding of PCDS and all engineering planning and delivery processes.
  • Good understanding of CAE analyses and tools and CAD modelling.
  • Proficient IT skills with strong virtual engineering tool skills (e.g., geometry analysis & review in CATIA, Enovia).
  • Flexibility in conducting activities at other JLR manufacturing & design locations, or supplier sites, to suit business needs.
