Our Hardware team is growing and we are looking for a PCB Design Engineer to undertake PCB design activities for the module / ECUs design, manufacturing and introduction of electronic modules / ECU’s for JLR programmes.


 This position sits within the Hardware Domain of the Digital Product Platform (DPP) Technical Centre within Product Engineering.


The role of the PCB Design Engineer is to engage in the development of electronic products – in this case the development of PCB layouts for use on electronic modules / ECUs. The PCB Engineer will deliver the product, working closely with the Electronic Design Engineers, based on clear vision of the strategy defined by the Product Owner.


As a PCB Design Engineer, you’ll be working as part of a squad responsible for the delivery of hardware modules at JLR, meeting defined targets and attributes (technical and commercial – on cost, quality and time).


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Design of PCBs for Electrical Modules / ECUs for automotive applications including PCB layout, design calculation and simulation.
  • Production of detailed design requirements, documentation and specifications for PCB development.
  • Design and preparation for manufacturing readiness, volume production and validation.
  • Creation and maintenance of PCB design rules, guidelines and constraints for use during the PCB design process.
  • Creation and maintenance of PCB libraries for use during the PCB design process




  •  Extensive experience of working as a PCB Design Engineer - within the Automotive, Aerospace or similar environment.
  • Degree in Electronics Engineering or similar technical qualifications or relevant experience.
  • Comprehensive experience in PCB layout from concept to high volume mass production.
  • Component library creation and management (PCB footprints and device parameter capture)
  • Experience of working with:
    • Multilayer PCBs
    • Via technologies (e.g. blind/buried/in-pad etc)
    • ICT / JTAG / BSCAN for test access
    • AOI (manufacturing validation)
    • Test point access / coverage
    • PCB coatings
    • Manufacturing requirements eg wave / flow solder / solder masking etc
