JOB TITLE: System Engineer - Suspension
LOCATION: Budapest
THE OPPORTUNITY
Suspension Function Group is a growing area within Chassis Engineering. Suspension Function Group is responsible for the vehicle to ground contact, maintaining comfort, vehicle dynamics and off-road capability.
This role will require you to lead the definition; development and delivery of harmonised systems solutions to meet the needs of your customer features and systems. This will include eliciting stakeholder requirements from a range of internal customers, developing logical and physical architectures, and working closely with Subject Matter Experts, Technical Specialists & leads for each sub-system to deliver against these requirements.
You will also support the delivery of rigorous Functional Safety and Cyber Security cases as part of the Systems Engineering process. You will work within an Agile product development environment focused on creating value for your stakeholders.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Deliver systems engineering capability within Suspension function group, covering requirements, validation, technical decomposition & analysis across the range of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles.
- Lead the work for the junior members of the team.
- Assist and contribute to the generation of targets and verification methods that are driven by Customer, Function Requirements and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
- Contribute to the delivery of the area onto all programmes, in line with the Systems Engineering discipline outlined by Product Creation Systems.
- Provide technical support and assistance across the operational team on topics relating to the integration and harmonisation of multiple interconnected components including issue resolution and objective data analysis.
- Work with Technical Specialists and Research Engineering on Attribute and Function Forward Strategies, including new Function Definition and Failure Mode Avoidance.
- Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.
- Work with system leads, Subject Matter Experts & Technical Specialists to:
– Ensure system context & boundary is clear & agreed, with all stakeholders identified, using appropriate diagrams & artefacts.
– Elicit, author, decompose & maintain requirements. Increasing coverage, providing structure & integrating existing decks.
– Build traceability between requirements and test cases.
– Develop Validation & Verification plans (and integration where necessary).
– Create DFMEAs, Risk Analyses and FuSA/CySec documents as required.
- Ensure that all requirements are robust and meet quality standards.
- Develop usecases & customer requirement decks to ensure system requirement coverage is robust, with clear traceability between layers.
- Support Sub-System Leads & other Requirement Engineers to ensure that cascaded requirements are understood and can be further decomposed.
- Define improvements to requirement management process, tools and templates, across Chassis / JLR business where appropriate.
- Continually improve the requirements via quality reviews with engineers and other relevant stakeholders, recording the results and follow up actions.
- Develop quality metrics to assess requirements quality standards over time.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Essential:
- Good relevant experience of working in a Systems Engineering environment - ideally within the Automotive Sector.
- System engineering process including requirements & test case authoring.
- Model based systems engineering (MBSE).
- Requirements Management (RM).
- Good verbal and written communications, especially in English.
- Analytical and problem solving skills.
- Track record as an effective team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Relevant experience of system definition, system architecture development, requirements specification, design/performance modelling, systems integration, system assessment and acceptance.
Desirable:
- Experience in applying Systems Engineering and in solving complex technical issues using a structured approach.
- Knowledge of suspension/axles & their components, vehicle dynamics, NVH & Loads/durability.
- Experience in Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) with SysML using IBM Rational Rhapsody, Dassault Systèmes Catia Magic, TRM or similar toolset.
- Experience of working in an Agile product development environment.
- Willingness to occassionally travel to JLR’s development and manufacturing locations.
