THE OPPORTUNITY
This role will be within the Chassis Control Systems team, forming part of the Chassis Electronics (CE) section of Electrical Engineering (EESE). The team provides control system and software design and development expertise for existing and future CE related features such as Driveline Controls, Terrain Response, Active Suspension and Active Damping.
THE ROLE
This role is for an experienced and highly motivated Controls Engineer with responsibility for the design, development and delivery of in-house control systems and software for Chassis Electronics features.
Leading a small team in the design and development of model based control strategies. This includes development and demonstration of new concepts and systems, working with software engineers to update and improve existing systems and architectures.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Requirements analysis and decomposition, control strategy design, development and execution of validation process and associated simulation environments
- Working with a team of system and software engineers, including an offshore team
- Delivery of software to chassis and powertrain engineering
- Working together with the other lead engineers to align processes and develop efficiencies between the chassis features
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Essential:
- Thorough understanding of Control System design and development using the Mathworks toolchain (Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow) for real time applications
- Experience of control strategy development and delivery through all stages of the engineering development ‘V’ cycle, including understanding of system and software engineering principals
- Degree in Electronics, Software, Automotive / Aerospace engineering or similar subject, or equivalent industry experience
Desirable:
- Understanding of automotive networking, diagnostics and fault handling techniques, and related system development tools (CANalyzer, ASL, CANape, etc.)
- Virtual validation tools and techniques such as desktop Simulation tools (e.g. IPG CarMaker) or HIL environments (e.g. dSpace), and associated plant model development
- Experience of safety critical systems and software, including standards such as ISO26262, IEC61508 or similar
- Prior team leadership experience
- Fluent in English
