Pathways

PROPULSION

Our team’s purpose is to ensure testing, measurement, methodology and technology are all consistent and accurate. As an active team member, you’ll be tasked with executing test plans, preparation, installation, modifications, maintenance and fault diagnosis of complex propulsion units – it’s a great way to learn from expert colleagues at the forefront of the industry.

In the second year, you’ll get exceptional experience in the test environment, getting hands on with state-of-the-art equipment, before being guided into your third year and final role.

What you'll need

To be eligible for our Higher Apprenticeship programme you will need to demonstrate a passion for Manufacturing and strong motivation for the role. You will also need to meet our academic entry criteria:

  • Maths and English Language GCSE level 4 (C) or above.
  • In addition you will need three additional GCSE’s including a STEM subject at level 4 (C) or above, or as an alternative to the additional three GCSEs an Engineering Vocational qualification level 3 of 90 credit value (540 GLH).
  • You’ll also need A Level Maths at C Grade or above

CAD TECHNICIAN

Our CAD Technicians create the parametrised geometric designs at whole systems level to enable the drive of standardisation, efficiency and robustness within Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

Focused on consistency and accuracy in design, creation and methodology, they engage with teams across the business to develop CAD models that shape robust design. Along the way, you’ll be supported to develop your CAD skills with the Powertrain AVA Team and get to work on real life projects across Powertrain.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Engineering Higher Apprenticeship is a four year programme. Your first year will be spent at college as a Jaguar Land Rover employee learning the engineering basics you'll need in your role with us. During your second year you will continue your studies at your training provider on a one day release basis with the constant guidance and support of an Industrial Training Manager (ITM). Your final years will see you complete your end-point assessment and achieve your Level 4 Apprenticeship, ready for an amazing career in Engineering.

Online Application and Psychometric Tests

  • Situational judgement test
  • Numerical reasoning test
  • Verbal reasoning test
  • Diagrammatical reasoning test
  • Match 6.5 personality profiling test

Face to Face Assessment

  • 110 minute assessment
  • Motivational and behavioural interview (55 minutes) including reasons to join JLR and understanding of the industry
  • Break (15 minutes)
  • Practical exercise (45 minutes)

In our assessment process we will be looking for evidence of key behaviours and characteristics that are important for success in our business. We will share these with you ahead of your assessment to help you prepare.

I’m a Maintenance Engineer in my second year of the Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Pathway. I was looking at a variety of apprenticeships, but I chose Jaguar Land Rover because they are one of Britain’s largest car manufacturers and the structured and detailed apprenticeship programme really appealed to me and my working style. One of the greatest aspects of being on any of the apprenticeship programmes, is the support you get to succeed. I started with a year at the training provider at Aston, but my development has only increased since being on-site in Solihull.

As strange as this sounds, I didn’t know much about the world of engineering until a group of Jaguar Land Rover apprentices came into my school to talk about what they do. I was amazed that engineering was really suited to my skillset. And I realised that creative thinking and problem solving are exactly what is needed to do well as an apprentice here. I’ve been here three years now, working as a Design Engineer, and it has been harder than I thought, but the support is incredible. And the network of other apprentices is huge. There’s always someone who will listen to you and so many people you can learn from.

It’s so exciting! 5G technology, streams of data and advanced cloud and server based platforms are allowing me to help our cars adapt in the moment to drive efficiency for the customer. Whether that’s predicting when a car needs to warm the seats or start up, or when an engine needs to change performance to match the conditions it’s driving in. Not to mention how we update battery range or infotainment systems in the blink of an eye.
