JOB TITLE: Functional Safety Engineer
SALARY: £40,000 - £50,000

Developing and delivering a comprehensive and aligned propulsion system Functional Safety strategy into the Calibration and Controls department, this role will work on new technologies, methods, standards, processes, people and organisation, hardware and software tools. In particular, this will focus on Functional Safety considerations for upcoming projects so to ensure seamless transfer from development into delivery and validation.                                                                                                                   

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Ensure capable, robust and documented methods across the Safety attribute and propulsion system types.
  • Advise and direct Feature development teams to ensure Functional Safety activities are suitably performed.
  • Contribute to the development of capable, efficient, standardised and automated Functional Safety processes
  • Work on ensuring Jaguar Land Rover has capable, effective and tools to support the Functional Safety calibration across propulsion system architectures.
  • Contribute to the test data acquisition, management and automated reporting
  • Coordinate process, tools and technology improvement projects
  • Liaise with key suppliers, particularly as “Matched-pair” for software and calibration.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested



Knowledge, Skills and Experience



  • Knowledge of propulsion system controls and calibration, ideally to a detailed level
  • Experience of modelling complex systems, ideally vehicle and/or Powertrain systems
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety in Automotive industry or other safety critical domain



  • INCA, Creta, Matlab, Simulink and Simulink Projects, Excel
  • Safety Analysis techniques such as FMEA, FTA etc.
  • Knowledge of ISO26262 and/or other domain specific standards and regulations
  • Delivery of Engineering and/or analytical projects preferably within the automotive industry
  • Experience of solving complex technical issues using a structured approach with the ability to identify areas for improvement
