The role of Electrification, Transmission and Drive-Line (ETAD) Manager sits within the Powertrain Test Operations Team. The purpose of the role is to focus on the delivery of an end to end service which takes test requests from customer teams and transfer them to a working and commissioned test facility generating data meeting agreed scheduled performance. In doing so, you will be responsible for EMachine, EDU, Transmission, Inverter, Power Electronic, Charging and DCDC activity.


As leader of the ETAD Team you shall co-ordinate activity and communicate with customer teams ensuring that the ETAD Team effectively and efficiently deliver a wide range of complex verification and validation test activities as defined by the vehicle programme teams. Through your focus on operational leadership you will ensure that the Team delivers test and development of industry leading technology to a world class standard.

You will be responsible for building strategic partnerships with external suppliers to ensure the agreed capability and capacity demands of the customers can be met in a timely manner. The goal is to ensure that we have the capability and capacity to develop and validate the next generation propulsion technologies, which are central to the future competitiveness of the business.


In leading and managing your team you shall set appropriate objectives and ensure that Team members have the relevant skills and competencies required to fulfil their roles. You shall develop a training plan, carry out performance reviews and career development interviews and oversee both recruitment and retention of team members. You shall also be responsible for owning the team’s processes and overseeing their smooth and effective running.

Leadership, management and process ownership of all operational facilities within the ETAD Team shall fall under your remit as part of Powertrain Test Operations, a department within Jaguar Land Rover’s Product Engineering.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:


  • Authoring System Design and Software Specifications for Telematics.
  • Reviewing technical specifications and implement relevant technical standards for Telematics systems and vehicle network communications.
  • Manage Software Architecture design and solving system level design problems.
  • Prepare documentation and presentation material to effectively communicate technical subject matter senior management.
  • Define deliverables / timing & manage them through to completion.



As an ETAD Manager, you will need to enable the ETAD Team to collate, manipulate and interpret data to support, influence and inform engineering and management decisions. You will be required to plan, co-ordinate and control the activities for the Team in order to achieve set objectives. A key responsibility for this position is leading and directing a multi-disciplinary team allocating responsibilities to ensure maximum effectiveness of the team.

You should also be able to ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues, co-ordinate activities to ensure strategic intent and investment is met through accurate forecasting and also lead and support all activities that result in a positive outcome from any audit e.g. IATF16949, ISO45001, ISO14001.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Experience of managing and technical leadership in delivering in an operational environment
  • Leadership of teams delivering in a complex technical environment
  • Strong technical expertise and experience in a related field and preferably in powertrain systems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Product Development structure and processes.
  • Ability to identify, influence, standardise and deliver process and efficiency improvements across direct team and customer interface departments.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen covering team operational management, control of headcount, overheads and efficient facility operation



  • A Level 6 qualification in Business Management or related discipline 
  • A Level 7 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Educated in Project Management (APM or Prince 2)
  • Knowledge of Powertrain propulsion systems, test facility operations and processes
