STA SENIOR ENGINEER (NEW MODEL LAUNCH / SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT)

Salary:  From 2600 eur monthly, 0-15% yearly bonus, other benefits according JLR rules

 

The opportunity

The STA New Model Launch Engineer (NML) has the responsibility for delivery of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) through the application of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for selected components as agreed with the Programme team as well as the responsibility for identified PPAP Level 3 / 5 components.

 

The STA Supplier Management Engineer (SM) is responsible for the management and resolution of daily operational and serial quality issues including warranty issues within Suppliers Manufacturing Production streams using Problem Solving techniques.


As part of a team of engineers based in region you have the responsibility of: 

 

  • Working with internal stakeholders and supplier representatives to ensure STA responsibilities are delivered according to Process 6.1 – 6.8. Including. Support x-functional team with concept/design failure mode avoidance (DFMEA & PFMEA), checking fixture and gauge design strategy and confirming suppliers initial control plan.  Ensuring tools are in home location to support programme timings. Supporting production trial runs once tools are in home location and confirming part quality and dimensional status from trial runs.
  • Supporting APQP process, using commodity plans to confirm supplier product delivery plans, confirmation of manufacturing feasibility of the facilities & production process. Review of supply chain design, review of tooling and fixtures, production process and plant capacity, process readiness, and project management, Confirming control plans and quality assurance process robustness, ready for run at rate. Update Failure Mode Avoidance documents with learning.  Review PPAP submission pack including PV testing results.  Confirm all PPAP elements are complete review data and sign PSW. 
  • Support facility readiness and production readiness reviews, run at rate trail support. Attend APQP formal reviews and interim sessions as required. Ensure eAPQP discipline and integrity for all STA and supplier responsible items.  Issue resolution including onsite support at supplier manufacturing locations linked to Facility and Production maturity.
  • Supporting APQP process, using commodity plans to confirm supplier product delivery plans. Attend APQP formal reviews and interim sessions as required. Ensure eAPQP discipline and integrity for all STA and supplier responsible items. Issue resolution including onsite support at supplier manufacturing locations linked to FMA, production part quality or PPAP documentation failures.
  • The role should support the STA vision of driving manufacturing excellence into the supply base of the given COC components and will require a mixture of operational, tactical and support of strategic purchasing activities.
  • STA NML Engineers using PCDS (In-Flight) or CCDS (MLA) as the fundamental approach to Product Launch.

 

As STA SM Engineer has the responsibility: 
•    IQM / AIMS – Manage STA Owned claims for supplier liable quality and delivery issues 
•    SD / MSA – supplier diagnostic audits, and manufacturing site assessment audits •    Prioritise and lead supplier quality and delivery issues that risk disrupting vehicle production 
•    SQD – monitor and manage performance for all suppliers 
•    FASS – lead STA owned field action and stop ship issues 
•    SIM – Manage SIM hygiene for all suppliers 
•    Warranty (field claims) – Agree and manage warranty projects 
•    JLRQ – develop and maintain JLRQ sufficiency plans 
•    Critical Concerns Process – Lead STA owned white alert. 
•    SCR – supplier change request (review, implementation, re-PPAP)
•    Escalation – CCAR, 8D, PPS
•    Capacity verification – OEE, CARs, shared loading plans 
•    CFA – customer focused audit 
•    Project management / Gantt chart / PDCA / Project transfer – relocation 
•    New Tooled End Items – PSW Target by Build Phase
 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

●    Manage supplier process and part development and introduction to support delivery of excellent quality and on time launch of vehicle projects. 
●    Manage and continually challenge supplier performance for new model production preparation which supply production parts into our vehicle plants.
●    Manage productive relationships with internal stakeholder and suppliers’ representatives to ensure all supplier manufacturing process related APQP deliverables are met. ●    Collaborate with key stakeholders to maximise Supplier Technical Assistance influence and ensure alignment with Purchasing and CCDS/PCDS processes and policy. ●    Lead and develop the ongoing capability of all team members and associated department processes and activities to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.
●    Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.
●    Check project steps and deadlines of supplier in case of transfer whole production and logistics to new supplier.
 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:
●    5-10 years work experiences in pre-series production, series production, quality, project launch in automotive sector ●    Previous experience in a manufacturing or engineering gained at engineer or management level  ●    Problem solving management (8D, PPS, CCAR…)
●    APQP management / phased PPAP / PSW / eCAR / Gauge R&R study / Capability study / OEE / Production R@R)
●    A proven leadership track record in a manufacturing or technical environment
●    Broad experience of managing external stakeholder and supplier relationship management 
●    Excellent stakeholder management and relationship management skills and experience
●    Able to manage and execute complex projects on time and within budget
●    Excellent communication skills with the ability to converse at all levels of the organisation and with external suppliers/customers
●    Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
●    Project management / Agile 
Desirable: 
●    Project management background 
●    Engineering background 
●    Automotive background 
●    Interior – Doors / Instrumental panels & Central consoles / Decorative trim (veneers, Alu parts, carbon, chrome, mesh, etc.)  / Cabin trim (headliners, pillars, LS, plastic parts, etc.) / Seating business / Safety components / HVACs and Climate components.
●    Experience with Production / Final assembly / EOLT / Product audit
