WHAT TO EXPECT
This role is accountable for the successful delivery of the BIW Manufacturing element of a new vehicle programme to the business. The scope includes the design, development and implementation of manufacturing production processes to enable successful launch of new products, typically but not limited to a single platform with several nameplates from that platform. While process and facility elements are clearly a priority, the efficient engineering of the product is a key responsibility for this role – driving manufacturing KPI’s such as engineering minutes and right first time and so on into the product through collaboration with Product Engineering.
As a senior manager in the department additional transformation activities are added to the objectives which are of a departmental nature.

THE ROLE
Key Responsibilities
Working collaboratively with colleagues, especially the senior manager for Product Engineering and Plant Operations:
Accountable for:
- The safety of the people in and around our projects. Design in safety
- Planning, specification, installation and delivery of BIW manufacturing production equipment, processes and facilities that meet our quality (divert free vehicles), volume (overall productive rate) and cost targets, typically but not limited to a platform with nameplates off that platform
- Delivery of manufacturing characteristics of the BIW product design. Design for assembly
- Demonstrating adherence to internal and external benchmarks for capex and opex and working with procurement team to develop a strategic sourcing plan for BIW
- Work to and enhance/kaizen our internal standards
- Adherence to policy deployment and annual strategy deployment into the team. Take part in shaping the strategy as appropriate. Work within and be an ambassador for the quality operating system
- Optimised material delivery design
- Alignment with stakeholders – Product Engineering, Technology managers, ME counterparts. Strategic alignment. Engage with virtual enterprise and process chains
Responsible for:
- Wellbeing and mindset of the team. Seeking growth mindset with focus on kaizen and sharing. Drives for diversity and inclusion in the team
- Responsible for commodity selection and development process. Work with standards holders to deploy standards into shop
- Developing a BIW site strategy for applicable site(s), including having and maintaining a 10 year look ahead plan. Develop this together with the manufacturing business office
- Monitoring new equipment deployment process stages and delivering technology to the correct stage for the applicable gateway
- Supporting the cross functional forums to engage with stakeholders
- Take up transformation theme and project leadership
- Team resource planning and management aspects. Manage utilisation of the team and drive sufficient resources to cover the required cycle plan. Deliver year on year efficiencies and optimisations through kaizen initiatives. Utilise pulse and other engagement tools to drive wellbeing and engagement in the team
- The individual is responsible for identifying and forming strong working relationships with the appropriate Product Engineering counterparts. Objective is to deliver efficient product and process optimised between the two
- Deliver in line with the JLR CO2e glidepath

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Min 3 full or partial automated bodyshop delivery cycles completed. Demonstrable knowledge of:
- BIW product architectures.
- BIW joining technologies.
- Failure mode avoidance processes, incl. PFMEA
- Processing product efficiently
- Commodity selection
- Capital equipment procurement (commercial and financial acumen)
- Launch into production
- Managing ongoing quality of product
- Managing vendors and vendor interactions on large capital projects
- Tooling and tooling strategy
- Safety processes such as CE/UKCA and CDM
- Ergonomics
- Optimised material delivery
- Ability to work cross functionally and demonstrating ability to influence and collaborate effectively
- Ability to lead a team and drive high engagement
- Demonstrates a working knowledge and mindset in lean to include problem solving and kaizen
- Proven ability to work within tight deadlines & be able to manage and prioritise multiple activities simultaneously.
- Ability to make presentations and proposals to a variety of audiences to deliver complex concepts and ideas.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Legislative and Industry Standards in Automotive
