WHAT TO EXPECT
 
Joining the Legal and Compliance function at JLR means becoming a critical part of the teams which enables us to create exceptional vehicles. We are a busy legal team who collaborate across the whole organisation on a wide variety of legal and compliance matters.

 

This role provides the opportunity for an enthusiastic senior Solicitor, with strong experience in commercial, compliance and consumer matters, with a real opportunity to provide strategic legal and commercial advice and direction.  Working, as part of a cross-functional team, the candidate will help shape the future of JLR, as the Head of Legal, primarily supporting our Overseas region.

 

The role will involve taking the lead in respect of legal, compliance and commercial risks which affect JLR’s Overseas Region, and it is expected that the right candidate will become a trusted and influential adviser to the JLR business, (including at board director level).

 

As a leader within the business, the successful candidate will be a role model of the Creators’ Code and demonstrate their ability to lead others to deliver best in class legal support. 

 

THE ROLE
 
Key Responsibilities

 

  • Using a business partnering approach, leading the provision of strategic legal and compliance advice and direction to support the Overseas Region
  • It is vital that the candidate can manage external counsel across multiple jurisdictions..
  • Advising, drafting and negotiating on a variety of matters (high value and complexity)
  • Devising and delivering legal training for business partners and lawyers
  • Analysing & challenging business decisions, including influencing stakeholders
  • Cross-functional collaboration, building a strong network of cross-functional stakeholders

 Key Performance Indicators

 

  • The ability to lead in the provision of legal and compliance advice in a commercial context, understanding the risks of the JLR business
  • With a range of jurisdictions within the overseas region, the ability to identify and proactively lead a diverse range of legal and compliance matters, whilst ensuring engagement and collaboration with subject matter experts within the Legal and Compliance Chapter, and managing external counsel
  • Strong experience in devising and implementing legal training, as required
  • Ability to identify key legal and commercial risks and be confident and experienced to make decisions which have significant and critical impact to the JLR business
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work as part of the Legal and Compliance team.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • Qualified senior Solicitor who is registered to practice within England and Wales, with strong proven experience as a commercial and consumer law specialist
  • Strong leadership & communication skills
  • Good commercial acumen, with the ability to identify legal and commercial risks and provide solution driven advice
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organisation, and drive key decision making within the Commercial organisation
  • Experience working collaboratively with other colleagues outside of legal functions
  • Experience of working on consumer goods matters
  • Experience in-house & in the automotive and/or consumer goods sectors is preferred.

  • An effective team player, actively leads, develops and supports team members
