JOB TITLE: Group Leader, Base Engine Calibration
SALARY: £55,000 - £70,000

As a Group Leader, you will be expected to manage the team that deliver in-house base calibration for the combustion engines. This is a key area that cover all JLR Ingenium family engines and some partner collaborations.

The department is responsible for the delivery of gasoline calibrations that achieve best in class attributes and “robustly” meet the most stringent global emissions standards. To support the business growth strategy, an opportunity exists for a Base Gasoline Calibration Group Leader. Principle responsibility will be to work closely with the Base Engine, PTSE, APC teams and world class gasoline consultancies / suppliers to develop optimised calibrations to meet all engine and subsequent vehicle level attributes.


This is of vital importance to deliver the latest and future PHEV and HEV applications. The team will deliver engine calibration as key part to maximize Powertrain efficiency for current and future JLR powerpacks, to ensure that the whole powerpack is delivered on time and quality.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver to a comprehensive set of targets through detailed / optimised calibrations to meet the overall applications attributes and calibration of the engine start requirements to meet worldwide requirements for JLR gasoline and diesel engine applications.
  • Prove through initial calibration and analytical applications that the proposed H/W solutions are capable of meeting complex cross system derived targets
  • Plan and delivery the full engine base calibration (Air path, Fuel path, Ignition Path, Torque model etc.), including validation and part-to-part variability robustness assessment
  • Develop calibration methodologies and tools minimised time to market and reducing the requirement of actual experimental tests in favour to CAE and virtual calibration and validation.



In this role, you will be required to lead a significant team of highly skilled Calibration and Analysis Engineers, establish solutions to enable calibrations to deliver required functionality from concept to production perspective and develop and manage supplier relationships of applicable projects e.g. FEV Aachen/Bosch.

You will also be expected to work in tandem with existing Calibrations LL6’s on calibration commonality, standards/SDS, process commonality etc and with LL6 Controls manager to assure integration of Cal and Controls effort – as well as reporting the calibration maturity and health for all responsible powerpack deliveries

Knowledge, Skills and Experience



  • Understanding and application of problem solving tools such a Six Sigmal, 8D, DMAIC etc.
  • Knowledge of the core combustion principals, FIE & turbocharger matching, after treatment calibration, application and control software capability and calibration principals
  • Proven detailed knowledge of emissions simulation and the integration of analytical tools in line with making detailed technical assumptions
  • Understanding of Engine Calibration from concept through to certification
  • Proven detailed knowledge and understanding of interactions between engine calibration, Engine/PTSE hardware and vehicle sub-systems



  • Knowledge of eFDVS / RMDV and AIMs
  • Qualified to degree level
  • Previous Team Leadership
  • Good knowledge of PCDS would be preferable along with experience on PCDS oriented programs
