WHAT TO EXPECT

 

This is a fascinating opportunity for a Battery Materials Engineer to join our Advanced Battery Materials Laboratory Team based in Lyons Park. The objective of the laboratory is to analyse and support the understanding of battery performance and degradation, contextualising this within the parameters set by the driving and usage environment.

 

As the Battery Materials Engineer, you will use your background knowledge of electrode materials and skill in electron microscopy, as well as complementary techniques, to analyse components and materials, supporting each project from receipt of sample, to delivery of the report to the customer.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Lead analysis and develop techniques on FIB-SEM, XRF and Optical Microsopes, as well as other chemical and physical analysis methods

  • Co-ordinate and support test activities having a full understanding of customers’ needs and priorities to ensure effective use of the facility

  • Be a point of contact for analysis activities and support investigations into battery design and development, warranty & research investigations

  • Responsible for the operation, methodology, functionality and calibration of the above instruments, as well as specifying and commissioning new equipment.

  • Adherence to Scheduled Performance targets (KPIs in SQDCPE), commitments and communication to ensure timely delivery of data/product

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

  • Technical expertise in Optical and Electron microscopy techniques and experience of battery materials analysis such as electrode, anode and cathode

  • Experience delivering analysis in a materials laboratory environment, with knowledge of analysis technology and facility requirements

  • Thorough understanding of specification, formulation and degradation of typical EV Battery Electrodes and/or electro-chemistry

  • Understanding of degradation features and manufacturing abnormalities in battery electrodes

  • Experience in complimentary techniques, such as TEM, STEM and/or other analysis techniques such as X-Ray Microscopy, XRD, XRF, C-F-Porometry, BET, Pycnometry
