JOB TITLE: EDS New Tool Item Component Engineer

The EDS (Electrical Distribution System) New Tool Item Engineer will work as part of a team developing JLR EDS in collaboration with the NEW TOOLED ITEM (NTI) team in the UK, 3D CAD engineers and also the numerous system and component teams collating and integrating the design data in order to achieve an efficient and robust EDS design.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

 

In this role, no two tasks are the same. With lots of projects and relationships to build with people across the business and beyond, it’s a challenge that will help your career grow within an iconic organization. Here’s what to expect:

 

  • Co- ordinate the design of NEW TOOLED ITEM parts in line with JLR and harness DFM (Design for Manufacturing) requirements
  • Responsible for designing to JLR standards and processes for EDS geometric CAD.
  • Work well with people from diverse backgrounds e.g suppliers, business partners, and offshore/onsite engineers.
  • Working as part of a team to develop, design NTI parts in 3D CAD using Catia (V6)
  • Responsible for meeting all relevant geometric requirements of the harness design and installation (Clearances, bend radius, validate or check the geometric compliance of the designs)
  • Resolve geometric issues when raised or identified.
  • Work with the wider EDS team to integrate electrical, attribute and mechanical data into design as required.
  • Work cross functionally to optimise geometric integration of the wiring into the vehicle and to propose or identify best possible geometric installations.
  • Supporting ever improving processes and standards for geometric integration

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

 

Along with your ambition to achieve the exceptional, there are several skills that you’ll need to have to help you succeed here, including:

 

Essential:

  • Bachelor degree as Vehicle Engineering, or mechanical engineering
  • Combine Engineering with business skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with Catia V5/V6
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and easily adapt to company specific systems (previous knowledge in WERS, AIMS, RMDV, ECR’s would be a benefit but not essential


Desirable:

  • Previous work within a multidiscipline Engineering team. Experience of technical problem resolution. A knowledge of System validation processes.
  • Understanding manufacturing process of Vehicles
  • Experience with the following tools: 3D experience, DT Database, ECR Database, EDS-Designer
