What you’ll do

This role is within the Powertrain Test Operations Team (E0-10) which is part of Powertrain Test Operations in Engineering Operations. This role is to lead the Health, Safety and Environmental team who have responsibility for ensuring compliance to legislation and operational requirements are achieved. The role is to mentor and coach managers, group leaders and supervisors to enable them to submit technically correct documentation and investigate incidents, accidents and audits in the correct manner, reporting findings on a weekly scorecard.


The role encompasses all aspects of Powertrain Testing including ECPL, HV, Safe Systems of Works, Incident Investigations and new project builds. The role has previously seen a significant reduction in accidents and incidents and has significantly improved the internal and external audit compliance, something that will be a key metric going forwards.


The role spans a multi-disciplinary team and will involve interactions from throughout the organisation from director to operator grades. The role requires someone who is proactive in operation and is able to look at new operations and facilities and foresee issues ahead of them occurring. The role requires someone who uses a strong set of Health, Safety and Environmental skills to look at how tasks can be completed safely, not to use H&S as a reason for not getting to the end goal.



Key accountabilities and responsibilities


  • Deliver targets for first time accident rate, RA, MS and Environmental
  • Support a multi-disciplinary team to assess proposed function, feature and performance alternatives
  • Work within a cross-functional team to ensure robust delivery
  • Develop through engineering and training to deliver to programs on time, quality and cost
  • Meet the delivery targets created in the specification phase
  • Build, maintain and manage relationships with internal and external suppliers and stakeholders
  • Develop and deliver robust project plans showing requirements for finance, legislation and H&S
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested


What you’ll need


  • A Level 6 Health and Safety Qualification
  • Recognised auditing qualification and in-depth knowledge of occupational health and environmental management systems
  • Define and set work streams based on risk based prioritisation
  • Membership of a professional body such as IIRSM or IOSH
  • Proven experience and knowledge of Powertrain test systems, rigs and facilities
  • Proven supervisory / management experience
  • Experience of coordination of multifunctional teams
  • Clear and confident communicator both orally and in writing
  • Comprehensive MS office experience
  • Ability to mentor and train others
  • A full UK Driving Licence with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualifications and 2 years accident free record.



  • A level 5 or equivalent environmental Qualification
  • A degree or similar level qualification
  • Experience of delivering and developing technical products in a product engineering environment
  • Knowledge of engine test automation systems and tools
