What you’ll do

EO10 is responsible for the Build and Test of Prototype Unit Under Tests (UUT) in support of overall powertrain cycle plan. Prototype Test supports this activity by establishing support and control of customer test program requests ensuring that tests are conducted to the correct procedure and process. Delivery of high quality data and observing test standards.

They will support the operation of the test department providing support and direction for the customers test projects and department workflow. They are responsible for leading the Diagnostic engineers in the delivery of individual test bookings in line with EO10022 operational processes and optimising utilisation of the test beds. The Rotating Machine Test Delivery department supports all JLR engine powertrain products at both Whitley and Gaydon sites and provides support for prototype testing.  The Lead Diagnostic Engineer will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in prototype product diagnostics. The role cover JLR powertrain products ICE, EDU driveline systems in end of line build sign 0ff to on facility fault diagnosis.

 

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Lead ETDS activities for Rotating Machine Test including ICE, EDU, PiL and driveline

  • Lead the ETDS team optimising operations for affective support of internal and external tests

  • Ensuring the control and management of Diagnostic equipment and software optimum for current and future programs.

  • Daily ETDS team communications and deployment against priorities

  • Personal 1:1 support with the team including personal and company objectives

  • High Voltage HV systems operation control and HS adherence for RMTD.

  • Lead the support in the rectification and support for emphasis build electrical harness pin out and early calibration de bug.

  • Ensure ETDS processes and procedures are maintained and are up to date with current operation.

  • Support hourly team with diverse skills supporting ICE, EDU test delivery and EoL sign off of ICE, EDU, PiL and driveline.

  • Promote/ Support Health & Safety, TPM and Training support SHARP and Zero Harm.

  • Support in the development of processes, work instructions (WIS) and single point lessons (SPL) to support Prototype Testing objectives.

  • Support apprentice, new starters and existing team member development.

  • Develop and provide weekly team feedback and presentations regarding departmental objectives and issues.

  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time

  • Liaison and support of third party ETDS teams externally

 

What you’ll need

Essential:

  • ICE/EDU facility operational knowledge

  • Proven experience in leadership and workload management.

  • Proven ability to plan effectively and achieve quality results.

  • Natural problem solver with proven experience and structured approach to problem solving in a technical environment.

  • Detailed knowledge of company Health and Safety requirements, including Risk Assessment, COSHH and SDS.

  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency to produce plans, presentations, graphs, SPL documents and process review / generation.

  • Experience in a testing environment, with a knowledge of measurement technology and facility requirements. 

  • Commitment, flexibility, self-motivation, robust clear communication.

  • Background in quality standards and audit processes.

  • A full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualification.

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred

 

Desirable:

  • Ideally educated to Degree but not essential in a Business, Science, Engineering or Mathematical discipline.

  • Knowledge of prototype engine test and or engine build processes and operations.

  • Skills in fault resolution and root-cause identification are crucial, as is a methodical, logical approach to work.

  • Previous experience of leading a team, the implementation of lean tools and processes

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification

  • A comprehensive knowledge of Powertrain products

  • Able to travel where required
