JOB TITLE: CR&D Project Lead
SALARY: £39,000 - £46,000 DOE

The role is for a project leader with a background in delivery of cross-functional projects with multi-stakeholder requirements. The primary purpose of the role within Research is to support the collaborative R&D strategy development, planning and delivery of collaborative R&D projects working cross-functionally, with partner organisations in industry and academia, and leveraging government funding to accelerate and scale up R&D projects.


This role will contribute to the development of collaborative R&D strategies to support Research Strategy / Technology Roadmap requirements and support the establishment and delivery of new funded collaborations and projects. The strategy and resulting projects directly support REIMAGINE and REFOCUS priorities, e.g Electrification, Connected and Autonomous Mobility, Sustainability and Hydrogen. Industry partners include a wide range of large industrials and small/medium sized technology firms from inside/outside automotive sector. Academic and research organisation partners include many of the UKs leading universities and national research organisations and infrastructure. External funding agencies include UK and international organisations, e.g. Innovate UK, Engineering and Physical Science Research Council, Advanced Propulsion Centre, Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, Zenzic, Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, Horizon Europe. Recent projects awarded include: developing advanced batteries, electric drive units, hydrogen fuel cell EVs, recycling and circular economy. This role will support development of bids through submission, assessment, project start-up and delivery. Working cross functionally with project technical leads and teams in legal, purchasing, finance and IP. This involves understanding technical approach, resource planning and costs, contracting, intellectual property, grant claims and forecasting, impact and exploitation, state aid and subsidy controls. The role will be required to develop solutions to meet needs of Jaguar Land Rover, collaborative partners and funding requirements which can be complex and sometimes conflict.

The successful candidate will be getting exposure to senior leaders both internally and externally and will have an impact on UK innovation and research as a whole.


The Research team is based in the state-of-the-art National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC) at the University of Warwick, where the teams are delivering innovation for use on future Jaguar Land Rover products. This role is based in the Collaborative R&D team and will work alongside research project delivery teams at NAIC and across other sites.




  • Contribute to the development of Collaborative R&D strategies, technology roadmaps and planning
  • Support technical leads to plan, develop and submit specific project funding bids, including consortium building, through assessment and award process
  • Working with technical leads and other business functions, support the establishment, contract management and delivery readiness of successful project bids
  • Contribute to the resolution of key project and funding challenges
  • Support key external stakeholder engagement activities



  • Ability to write reports and communicate to technical and non-technical audience
  • Experience of collaboration, cross functional team working 
  • Previous experience in a project delivery role in engineering or automotive environment 
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Strong stakeholder management skills  


  • A working knowledge of government policy development and funding
  • Previous experience of working with Universities and Research partners 
  • An individual with the ability to challenge existing thinking in a positive way whilst building credibility and trust through experience and personal style
