WHAT TO EXPECT

 

The Finance department offers a unique and highly challenging experience with business-wide exposure and development, where the key to success is the ability to manage our internal customer's expectations and deliver against their requirement using resources assigned against multiple and often conflicting priorities; Cost Engineering is an exciting and an integral part of the Finance department.

As a Programme Cost Engineer, you will support providing coordination and clear direction on all material cost related activities between the core Cost Engineering function and the dedicated Vehicle Programme Team. This will entail supporting the delivery of effective reporting and presentations on Should Cost status and offering options to the teams on cost down opportunities. The over-riding goal being to support the Programme to material cost target delivery for your programme.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Supporting key cost related activities, including cost target setting, VA/VE cost down workshops, benchmarking and supplier workshops and VFM coordination throughout the Product Development cycle for a Vehicle Programme.
  • Liaising with Cost Engineering Delivery, Engineering and Purchasing, bringing together their cross functional expertise to deliver best costs for a vehicle programme in an Agile Framework.
  • Tracking and reporting of Should Cost data to identify either commercial or technical cost down opportunities and supporting the development of Best Practice solutions to cost management as part of the JLR Cost Optimisation Process.
  • Coordinating a Cost Engineering team cross functionally and making a difference to vehicle development for a Vehicle programme.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

In order to be considered for this position it is advantageous to hold a formal qualification such as Degree within Engineering or any other relevant subjects.

The successful candidate needs to be a highly skilled communicator, with the ability to think on your feet and influence through your presentation and negotiation skills, to internal and external stakeholders.

 

  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes related to the automotive industry and experience dealing with automotive supply base.
  • Have a good technical awareness at both the production process and cost driver level.
  • Able to develop Visual Analytics using platforms such as Tableau.
  • Strong computer literacy- expect to demonstrate a degree of adaptability to company/department-specific systems.
