JOB TITLE:   Trade Compliance Specialist

As the Global Export Compliance Specialist,  you’ll support us to deliver the software engineering responsibilities of the Group’s Export Controls and Sanctions Compliance Transformation Programme.


This position will support our Shannon team to help devise, implement and operationalise local procedural controls in the design and pre-development phases of software creation to identify, record and monitor the Export Control status of developed or purchased software, subject to International Export Controls. Further verification and monitoring activity will be required post-deployment to ensure that the Export Control status of any software updates or modifications are assessed and recorded. You will also guide software development colleagues on Export Control, including undertaking reviews of existing software both with internal and external parties


Attention to detail is key. Therefore, you’ll identify and implement controls to ensure compliance with applicable export regulations and as required, develop export compliance policies and processes to support government contracts. You will also prepare, file and manage export license applications to support business activities. Using your excellent interpersonal skills, you’ll liaise regularly with the Group Head of Export Control and Sanctions Compliance and attend both the Export Classification Steering Group (ECSG) and, Group Export Control and Sanctions Council meetings.




The role will require in-depth knowledge of various international Export Control schemes in relation to software and cyber security, an understanding of how to manage the impact of Export Controls in the context of Cryptography and Cyber Security. Also practical experience of supporting the integration of Export Controls considerations into software development and sourcing processes.


You will come with excellent presentation skills to explain complex software concepts to non-engineering functions and complex Export Controls concepts to engineers.


The ideal candidate will also have experience with ITAR jurisdiction determination, export classification, licensing, experience managing export compliance on contracts.


We would expect the successful candidate to have knowledge of U.S government information handling and foreign disclosure policies and regulations plus experience working with U.S government contractors.
