This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Engineering Manager with a background in leadership and mentorship, who has a passion for employee development and stake holder satisfaction.


The main purpose of this role is to support the design and development of disruptive and innovative technologies. The team are the centre of gravity for testing excellence in JLR and this steam specifically develop bleeding edge solutions that have a direct impact on our vehicle range.  


This platform is used in all facets of engineers, some of note are autonomous vehicles and advanced control systems, electric powertrains, to class-leading infotainment, cloud-connected features, and integration of consumer electronic technologies, not to mention the opportunity to drive & test advanced prototype vehicles.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


  • Employee Development: The successful candidate shall be responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that improve employee satisfaction, retention rates, and promotion rates.

  • Team Performance: The successful candidate shall be responsible for tracking and monitoring the performance of the teams they manage, including productivity, quality of work, and meeting project deadlines.

  • Academic Institution Engagement: The successful candidate shall be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with academic institutions to recruit talent, establish partnerships, and create opportunities for internships and co-op programs.

  • Recruitment and Retention: The successful candidate shall be responsible for developing and implementing effective strategies to attract and retain top talent.

  • Training and Development Programs: The successful candidate shall be responsible for developing and implementing training and development programs that align with business objectives and improve employee skills and performance.

  • Performance Management: The successful candidate shall be responsible for developing and implementing performance management systems to align employee goals with company goals and values provide effective feedback and coaching to improve performance.

  • Budget Management: The successful candidate shall be responsible for managing the department's budget effectively to allocate funds for training and development, recruitment, and other initiatives.

  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: The successful candidate shall be responsible for ensuring stakeholder satisfaction, including employees, academic institutions, and external partners, by meeting their needs and maintaining positive relationships.

  • Innovation: The successful candidate shall be responsible for fostering an environment of innovation within the team to drive growth and achieve business objectives


What You Will Need




  • Technical Knowledge: Should have a strong understanding of web development and Python programming, as well as a deep knowledge of software development principles and methodologies.

  • Leadership: Should be able to lead and inspire their team, while also providing guidance, feedback, and support.

  • Communication: Should be an excellent communicator, able to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Project Management: Should have experience managing software development projects, including the ability to create and manage project plans, monitor progress, and ensure that deadlines are met.

  • Team Building: Should be able to create a cohesive team that works together effectively and efficiently, and foster an environment of trust, respect, and collaboration.

  • Problem-Solving: Should be able to think creatively and solve complex problems, as well as identify potential issues and develop solutions proactively.

  • Strategic Thinking: Should be able to think strategically and develop long-term plans that align with business goals and objectives.

  • Adaptability: Should be able to adapt to changing circumstances, shifting priorities, and new technologies.

  • Coaching and Mentoring: Should be able to coach and mentor team members, helping them to develop their skills and reach their full potential.

  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Should be able to analyse data and make informed decisions based on objective evidence, as well as use data to identify areas for improvement and optimize team performance.




  • Software Development Process: Knowledge of the software development process, including agile and waterfall methodologies, and experience in managing software development projects.

  • Programming Languages: Experience with Python programming language and web development tools such as Django, Flask, React, Angular, and Vue.js.

  • Software Architecture: Knowledge of software architecture principles, including microservices, RESTful API design, and database design.

  • Quality Assurance: Experience in designing and implementing quality assurance processes, including unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing.

  • Project Management Tools: Familiarity with project management tools such as JIRA, Trello, Asana, and GitLab, and experience in managing project timelines, budgets, and resources.

  • Leadership and Team Management: Ability to lead a team of developers, including coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback, while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and experience in managing stakeholder expectations, providing status updates, and presenting project progress to senior management.
