The role of Jaguar Land Rover’s Chief of Staff department is to protect and promote our brand to a range of internal and external stakeholders. Our Public Affairs department sits within the Chief of Staff’s office and is responsible for Government and Royal and Diplomatic Affairs
A truly unique opportunity for a Public Affairs professional has arisen to join the Government Affairs team for a major British automotive manufacturer. The business has recently announced a new global strategy, focussing on sustainability for the brands it represents.

A strategy that is designed to create a new benchmark in environmental, societal and community impact for a luxury business.
Sitting within Jaguar Land Rover’s global Public Affairs and wider Chief of Staff function, but based in Nitra, Solvakia – the production facility for Defender and Discovery - the role of the public affairs manager, Slovakia, is to maintain appropriately positive, collaborative relations with key Slovak government, NGO, trade bodies, local and national media to support continuation of Jaguar Land Rover’s successful business operations in the region.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Within Jaguar Land Rover Public Affairs work closely with the global Government Affairs team to deliver the company’s strategic objectives.
- Coordinate and support engagement activity between the company and Slovakian Government Ministers and officials on EU, national and local issues.
- Integrate and collaborate with colleagues from across the business, including in particular the EU Government Affairs team.
- Identify, propose and pursue opportunities related to policy and public funding resulting from government initiatives.
- Identify, monitor and communicate into the business policy updates that may have an impact on the company’s operations.
- Develop and sustain a high level of knowledge of key policy areas.
- Act as a first point of contact on relevant public affairs issues with external and internal stakeholders in Slovakia.
- Develop and maintain close relationships with Slovak automotive association ZAP and the British business chamber in Slovakia, along with other automotive companies present in Slovakia.
- Produce high quality presentations for internal and external senior level engagement.
- Lead on external outreach, engagement and project management with public, private and third sector organisations in the areas of sustainability, social responsibility and automotive skills.
- Coach and brief senior management colleagues to engage effectively with Slovakian Government Minister and officials.
- Undertake research and analysis tasks as required.
- Carry out administrative tasks as required.
CANDIDATE
Essential:
- Fluent spoken and written English and Slovak
- Minimum 5-year professional experience in a Public Affairs/Government role
- Exposure to automotive sector policy and its impact on business strategy and operations
- Understanding of political decision-making processes
- A sound understanding of the challenges and opportunities affecting the Slovakian automotive sector
- Strong political network within Slovakia
- A good level of IT competence is required in programmes such as Excel, Word and Powerpoint
Desirable:
- Ukrainian language skills
- Automotive sector experience within in-house corporate setting, trade association, consultancy or government (D)
- Experience of working on own initiative
- Knowledge of EU political processes
