JOB TITLE: Virtual Support Measurement Engineer

This role sits within the Engineering Laboratories - Road Load Data & Analysis Team.

The responsibilities of this specific role support 4 pillars of good virtual process; Tire Characterisation, Surface Modelling - through surface scanning, Driver Modelling via traditional parameter measurement and Vehicle Modelling which includes albeit is not restricted to, advanced optical measurement techniques and component characterisation. All data supports design release activity or technology advancement. In addition, this role may include or contribute to the collection of data in a wide range of environments such as in a test facility, on public roads and proving grounds, UK & overseas. Customer are far-reaching; from ADAS to Strength, Durability & Robustness, for all of whom the candidate is expected to deliver technical solutions that may sit outside expected norms.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


A reasonable understanding of virtual process and the prerequisites for successful modelling.

Competency in real-time analysis - statistical, frequency & fatigue.

Appreciation of road scanning; current technologies, limitations and integration requirements for use within the virtual environment.

Comprehension of tire characterisation, prerequisites, usage and integration with virtual and physical process.

Able to collate, manipulate and interpret data supporting its use for informed engineering decisions.

Oversee commissioning and acceptance testing of measurement equipment.

To support continuous improvement activity with the goal of improving test efficiency and/or product quality.

To support all activities that result in a positive outcome from any audit, e.g. TS16949, OHSAS18001, ISO 14001.

Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as requested.


What You’ll Need


Technical expertise and experience of virtual process with a biased towards durability appraisal.

Experienced with data acquisition, road scanning, tire characterisation and control systems.

Data analysis and reporting of test data.

Natural problem-solver with structured approach to problem solving in a technical environment.

The ability to validate, prepare and read engineering documents.

Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, Risk Assessment, COSHH.

Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency to produce plans, presentations, graphs process and Single Point Lesson (SPL) documents.

A full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualification, 2 years accident free record.


Highly advantageous criteria:


Experience with TS16949 or ISO9001 standards and requirements.

Experience and certification for conducting testing on proving grounds.

Knowledge of instrument calibration processes.

Appreciation of the use and application of a programming / scripting language (C/C++, python, Java, or similar).

Educated to Degree level in a Systems, Mechanical, Physics, Electrical/Electronic or related discipline.
