WHAT TO EXPECT

 

If the successful candidate for the above role is a current JLR employee, he or she will retain their current employer, i.e. if you are a Jaguar employee you will continue to be administered on the Jaguar grading structure with the associated terms and conditions. If you are a Land Rover employee you will continue to be administered on the Land Rover grading structure with the associated terms and conditions.

 

Materials Engineering within JLR are a multi-material discipline team providing specialist technical leadership and consultancy service to the whole business ranging from material investigations, selection and specification advice, material testing and analysis, and material technology research and developments for new products.

 

Working within the Metals Team with responsibility for all metallic materials and components, the engineer will lead all technical activities related to Sheet Aluminium, this includes material selection, validation and technical approval of materials for new programmes, supervise and lead laboratory failure investigations and issue technical reports to Engineering and CoC customers.

They will also lead projects to development and introduce new materials and technologies through cross functional working with Research and Materials Innovation teams.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

• Lead all technical aspects relating to Sheet Aluminium Material selection, validation & approval for Commodity Teams, new programmes, T&PPG, Joining, Purchase and related cross functional groups.

• Lead overall technical coordination for Commodity Teams and lead all technical  aspects of materials management for those groups.

• Lead technical activities with regard to materials input to CAD, release reviews and RMDV2 requirements.

• Writing technical reports, Specifications, Test Methods and Design Rules

• Lead Research & Innovation projects from a materials perspective

• Initiate and lead key transformational process improvement opportunities

• Coordinate laboratory failure investigation projects and test requests

• Provide a materials technical consultancy service for relevant customers

 

Cross functional engagement with CoC Engineering, Design, Purchase, STA and Research is essential in order to maximise the scope and effectiveness of the role.

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

Essential:

• A relevant Engineering degree is preferred but other technical qualifications will be considered.

• Must have extensive technical knowledge/experience of sheet aluminium components, particularly with respect to mechanical, formability and joining properties and behaviour.

• Preferred also to have strong technical understanding of testing/analysis, forming and joining processes and CAE/FEA tools and techniques.

• Experience of a materials related technical role within a recognised industry equivalent to automotive

• Experience in working in cross functional teams in a materials engineering capacity

• Experience in laboratory failure investigation tools, techniques and practices

• An ability to analyse problems / generate solutions and achieve results, making effective use of all resources available within the company and supplier base.

• Excellent organisational, communication and project management skills.

• A motivated self-starter capable of taking decisions with minimal need for guidance and initiating/leading process improvement projects.
