WHAT TO EXPECT

 

The Department

Business Development is a nimble, passionate team at the heart of the Strategy & Sustainability function. The team works alongside multiple business functions including Commercial & Engineering to drive growth in equity value for Jaguar Land Rover. Our focus is to deliver JLR’s future ReImagine Strategy through strategic partnerships and innovation ecosystems.

 

There are three core pillars within Business Development team:

  • Innovation Ecosystem: identifying existing and new inbound partnership business development activities as a “pipeline” with key accounts and relationships, linked directly to ReImagine Strategy.  Also includes engagement with wider Tata Ecosystem to support “One Tata” mindset
  • Commercial Innovation:  lead and develop business cases on validated opportunities, provide commercial assessments & business model innovation and deliver due diligence for JLR business
  • Deployment: lead management and execution of strategic engagements including commercial and partnership framework drafting, contract management and IP development frameworks

 

The Role

This role will act as a lead Senior Manager within the Innovation Ecosystem pillar and overall opportunity management and operate at the forefront of the development and early-stage deployment of our strategic partnership activity.

 

The role will focus on driving targeted, strategic engagements and new ecosystems our support future innovation, growth and ultimately our ReImagine strategy. This role is not business development driven by sales, but by strategic partnerships, collaborations, alliances and new ventures outside of JLR and the wider Tata Ecosystem.

 

Together with senior stakeholders across all JLR functions, including the Strategic Partnerships & Business Development Director, you’ll lead the origination, identification and evaluation of new and future business partnerships which directly support JLR’s strategy and functional requirements. This will include, but is not limited to:

 

  • New revenue & brand building services including energy, EV charging, mobility and data-based services
  • Future semi-conductor alliances and partnerships
  • Future sustainability initiatives
  • Tata Ecosystem development, expansion and coordination within JLR
  • Digital transformation & business resiliency initiatives
  • Creation and fostering of other strategic partnership external to the automotive industry to support emerging key priorities

 

In your role you’ll:

 

  • Lead JLR’s growth & innovation strategy through identification, assessment and execution of potential partnerships, investments and new commercial ventures in line with ReImagine strategy
  • Lead framework and ecosystem development for Tata group companies to manage new opportunities within JLR & Tata
  • Directly engage with Senior Business Leaders and Executive Directors to think about strategic partnerships & business development opportunities with a progressive, systematic and structured approach
  • Build relationships with JLR functional areas to keep an ongoing flow of ideas or key activities that are aligned with the JLR’s strategic objectives
  • Manage inbound leads to properly pre-qualify prospects and coordinate further follow up with appropriate business development leads, through the JLR partnership stage gate process
  • Lead the coordination JLR engagement external with key companies and organisations to deliver a “single voice of JLR” in strategic topic areas
  • Manage and engage external stakeholders, companies and partners representing JLR with professionalism and confidence including cascading external insights to relevant stakeholders in the business
  • Report to senior leadership on project progress and gateway reviews, including CEO and Board of Directors
  • Positive attitude and desire to make a difference at the heart of Jaguar Land Rover with strong leadership and a team-oriented approach to work

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

  • C-Suite Communication: excellent presentation skills, ability to clearly communicate complex problems into simple, compelling messages or decisions to senior managers and external business partners; Powerpoint skills are highly required
  • Track record of excellent stakeholder, account and relationship management skills: ability to influence and build strong, lasting and influential relationships both inside of JLR and outside in the marketplace
  • Motivation & Collaboration: active listening, written and oral workshop/facilitation management skills; ability to structure and manage complex cross-functional activities, projects and processes with multiple stakeholders at both senior and junior levels
  • Analytical/Problem Solving: strong intellectual and analytical rigor, including negotiation capabilities and commercial acumen
  • Leadership & People Management: demonstrate a strong ability to manage people & teams to bring out everyone’s best, coaching and development skills are a must
  • Strategic Creativity: whether it is seeing new ways existing opportunities could be developed, or finding completely new routes to market, creative thinking is essential
  • Office Software: primarily PowerPoint, Planner and other CRM toolkits
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of one or more strategic areas both inside and outside of JLR: Autonomy, Connected Vehicles/Services, Mobility and/or Electrification
  • Strong knowledge of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands, products, competitors, and positioning along with a  good understanding of global business conditions for the automotive sector

 

Personal Profile:

 

  • Experience in Strategic Partnerships or Business Development, driving B2B2C / D2C opportunities setting and exceeding strategic targets
  • Experience as high performing Team Leader, Head of Business Development or another Strategic Manager role
  • Experience within a high growth focused company focused on Partnerships, Alliances, & other Technology Partnerships
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent business acumen, and interpersonal skills
  • Educated to degree level or above, or equivalent experience
