WHAT TO EXPECT


The eMachine Electro-magnetic and Thermal development engineer will design, simulate and develop the electro-magnetic design of the traction motors for JLR's future electric drive units. You will also be expected to model losses and forces of your designs, and interface with the thermal and mechanical colleagues.
 

You will also be responsible for electro-magnetic design of new eMachines, prediction and correlation of performance and efficiency of eMachines & Drives , Loss optimisation, support multiphysics analysis (Electromagnetic-thermal-mechanical) , thermal analysis of BEV and PHEV eMachines & Drives  and help define eMachine cooling requirements.


Operating in a cross-functional organisation, you will directly report to the group leader, and when delivering on specific vehicle programmes, have an additional matrix report to the module leader.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED


You will have strong theoretical background on eMachines design and their applications, a strong theoretical background and/or experience in 2D & 3D Electro-magnetic modelling of systems, preferably applied to electric motors, a strong understanding of the physical nature of the losses in electric motors (core & copper loss, etc…) and a good understanding of main heat transfer mechanisms and good understanding of materials' thermal properties (thermal conductivity, specific heat, etc).


You will also have a good understanding of the cooling systems used in electric motors, an understanding of eMachine controls and calibration and ideally have experience in structural modelling of electric motors, Inverter/electric motor interactions (control strategies, modulation techniques) and their effect on the motor performance, testing and design verification methods for correlation in CAE and the use of Matlab for data post processing.
