WHAT TO EXPECT

 

 

Hybrid and Electrified powertrains support Jaguar Land Rover’s objective of delivering clean and efficient products to our customers. In-house development of the eMachines provides Jaguar Land Rover with the capability to rapidly develop and deploy a product for EDUs, maximising the benefits of these technologies through a short time to market, delivering unique industry leading features. As an eMachine Mechanical CAE Engineer, you will play a key part in delivering JLR’s eMachines for our next generation of Electric Drive Units.

 

The eMachine Mechancial engineer is responsible for providing expertise and guidance on all aspects of the mechanical design for eMachine rotor and stator assemblies, ensuring all functional targets are met for serial production.  The successful candidate will work alongside mechanical, thermal and magnetic CAE engineers as well as Component Lead and delivery engineers to help conceive, develop and industrialise design solutions and resolve technical issues that arise during development. They will take a direct role in the creation and application of appropriate Standards and Requirements, liaising with Subject Matter Experts and legislative and Compliance teams and will play a key role in overseeing requirement sign-off activities for all eMachine rotor and stator assemblies. The eMachine Mechanical engineer reports to the eMachine Commodity Manager

 

  • Support the mechanical development of eMachine rotor/stator assemblies and associated components using Multiphysics tools.

  • Support development of the modelling and analysis techniques of high and low cycle fatigue in rotating and static components.

  • Support the mechanical design optimisation studies.

  • Perform modal analysis on rotating assemblies and support further NVH calculations.

  • Support the development of test procedures and internal Standards relating to the mechanical design of eMachine rotor and stator assemblies and subcomponents.

  • Support Validation engineers to ensure all requirements relating to mechanical design are verifiable and are linked to test cases with well-defined pass/fail criteria.

  • Liaise with internal and external test facilities to review test data and perform correlation to CAE models.

  • Support the development of eMachine DFMEA, ensuring all failure modes relating to mechanical design are captured and clear linkage to test verification is present.

  • Further develop internal electrical machine calculation algorithms and improve speed and accuracy of outputs.

  • Liaise with cross-functional teams within Powertrain to manage the interfaces between inverter – EDU and electrical machine.

 

 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

Essential:
•    Technical Degree qualified
•    Aptitude for identifying and solving complex engineering problems.
•    Experience with any or all of Abaqus, nCode, Femfat, Hyperworks, Tosca, iSight.
•    Experience in performing static and dynamic analyses, fatigue analysis, optimisation.
•    Experience in designing and modelling rotating parts / machinery.
•    Strong technical writing skills.
•    Able to effectively communicate and work cross-functionally with technical and compliance teams. 
•    Good presentation skills.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of designing and modelling eMachines.

  • Experience of working with suppliers & customers, both internal and external.

  • Experience of Agile working principles.
