JOB TITLE: Trim & Final Technology Manager - Solihull

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Trim & Final Technology Manager will lead and direct all Trim & Final (T&F) production, maintenance and engineering activities for the Solihull Plant (Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Jaguar F-Pace production), including overall accountability for the planning, control and delivery of all production targets, activities and associated Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People and Environment (SQDCPE) metrics for the area.

 

Reporting to the Solihull Plant Operations Director, this role has the largest people management responsibility (leading over 3,400 people) on site (which employs over 7,000) and will be a key player in the plant senior leadership team supporting corporate initiatives and contributing to development of the plant strategy. The role will also be responsible for continuous improvement activities in all aspects of delivery, seeking and sharing best practice and process improvements across the area as well as the wider Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) production network.

 

The role reports to the Solihull Plant Operations Director and key interactions for this role will be the other manufacturing business areas (Press, Body, Paint, Material Planning & Logistics (MP&L) and Quality), Plant Finance, HR and Trade Union (TU) representatives.  Outside of the Plant effective relationships are essential with peers from other plants (UK and international),     Manufacturing Product Integration (MPI), Manufacturing Engineering (ME), Product Development (PD), Supply and Commercial.

 

THE ROLE

  • Lead, engage and develop a large team of JLR associates and managers.
  • Manage the day to day production, maintenance and engineering functions for the Trim & Final Area.
  • Provide a safe working environment and safety leadership across the Area.  Ensure all potential risks are identified and mitigated with strict process adherence and all corrective actions are implemented from any accidents.
  • Lead delivery of efficiencies in process to deliver year-on-year productivity and reduce Hours per Car (HPC).
  • Work closely with the Plant Quality Manager to ensure that market information is understood and corrective actions taken in car assembly processes to meet/exceed quality targets.
  • Develop a five year strategy including non-product capital expenditure projects to maintain and improve the current facility and process.
  • Manage the cost budget to include labour, consumables, scrap, repairs and service contracts and continually seeks efficiencies in all areas.
  • Work closely with ME, Manufacturing Technology Office (MTO) and MPI in the delivery of new models and represents the Plant/Manufacturing in a range of meetings/forums including Vehicle Quality Review (VQR), New Model Launch Reviews (NMLRs), Launch Control Meetings (LCMs) and T&F Technology Forum best practice meetings.
  • Develop strategies with support functions and contractors to ensure their objectives are fully aligned and support Plant objectives.
  • Ensure Integrated Production System (IPS), Manufacturing Quality Operating Standard (MQOS) and Launch Quality Operating System (LQOS) processes understood and adhered to throughout the T&F area.
  • Creates a focus point for the cross-plant technologies that supports the delivery of a high quality product meeting marketplace expectations.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Successful experience of engaging, developing and leading multi-skilled teams in multi-shift operations.
  • Extensive previous experience of Production Management at senior management level including consistent delivery of productivity targets in high pressure fast-paced lean manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience of vehicle build and delivery processes and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding and experience of Lean and Engineering/Manufacturing Processes, Tools and Techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience in the application of a logical approach to Problem Solving.
  • Working knowledge and experience of delivering safety metrics.
  • Proven project management experience and the ability to work within tight deadlines and be able to manage and prioritise multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders at all levels; including delivering presentations to work groups and senior management.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Health and Safety Audits and ergonomics including risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective business behaviours (JLR leadership framework).
  • Commercial and brand awareness with insight into (our) customer base – their values and expectations.
  • Experience of two or more technologies (Press, Body In White (BIW), Paint and T&F) preferred.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Legislative and Industry Standards in Automotive, and experience of working in partnership with a Trade Union preferred.
