WHAT TO EXPECT

The industry is growing quickly at a time when the technology is changing rapidly which poses a number of challenges for JLR. The technology is changing at a faster rate compared to our normal maturation timelines. So, to manage this, we must look forward and identify the right technologies that we need to invest in and determine how we grow as a team to accommodate and deliver this.

The battery team is one of the fastest growing teams in the JLR business with main focus to respond to the increasing mix of BEV vehicles in our cycle plan. We are looking for a Characterization Engineer who will get the opportunity to be a part of the Battery Systems Advanced Concepts & Research Pillar, reporting to the Pillar Head. The Characterization Engineer will be a part of implementing characterization solutions to meet component functional targets.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities  

• Develop the characterization part of the BEV battery technology roadmaps to support JLRs electrification transition.
• Consolidate and create benchmark material from device to vehicle that maximises our understanding of our competitors and the current / latest technology landscape being deployed.
• Work alongside our Engineering Operations team to ensure we have the right facilities in place to execute the technology roadmap.
• Work alongside key business stakeholders to ensure we meet our vehicle product needs.
• Develop and cascade a technology roadmap that takes us to the next generation of battery technologies such as solid state and characterization-to-car / module-to-car concepts.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Experience of the multi-physics nature of characterization and battery design and integration.
• Experience within the competitor characterization and battery manufacturing industry.
• An ability to communicate a technical concept and strategy vision to the wider vehicle and Power Train electrification teams in order to drive toward a single optimised roadmap.
• Ability to help build and lead a winning team in the field of characterization / battery pack future strategies and research.

• Ability to build and manage multiple internal and external relationships in complex stakeholder environments.
• Knowledge of the BEV characterization and battery landscape across the worldwide supply base or other OEM manufacturers to allow credible and competitive concepts and strategies to be followed.
